Join the Women of the ELCA and Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin to learn about how Wisconsin youth are impacted by sex trafficking, what we can advocate for locally and statewide, and how to talk to legislators about the Safe Harbor bill to move Wisconsin further in the direction of directing trafficked youth to human services rather than criminalizing them.

Hear from our speakers: Morgan Meadows, M. Ed., Survivor of sex trafficking and consultant in leadership and survivor advocacy (Morgan is in the process of establishing a community-based learning design center that accommodates survivors), Door County; Bishop Jim Arends, La Crosse Area Synod; Jen DeLeon, National WELCA Director for Justice; Dana World Patterson and Jay Reinke, Milwaukee Joint Task Force on Human Trafficking; and Representative Jill Billings. District 95.

Prepared with what we have learned we will head for the capitol after lunch. The Women of the ELCA are funding buses to take us to and from the capitol to speak with our state senators and representatives or their staff. The Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin will set up the visits with your legislators ahead of time (we will use your addresses to locate your legislators on the https://legis.wisconsin.gov website). Most attendees will make visits in pairs or groups.

After completing our visits we’ll debrief in a room at the capitol and then head back to the church. We should be ready to depart the church to return home by 5:00 pm.
