LOPPW Joins Agriculture, Hunger Relief Groups to Call for Action on FoodShare
February 11, 2026
The Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin joined a broad coalition of agribusinesses and hunger relief groups for a press conference to urge Wisconsin lawmakers to address an urgent need for $69.2 million in funding for FoodShare, Wisconsin’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
With the adoption of legislation last summer, the federal government shifted 75 percent of SNAP administrative costs to states. If Wisconsin lawmakers do not take action to allocate funds to support the program, benefits could be at risk, and the state could face penalties up to $205 million.
Addressing hunger is one of the most meaningful ways we care for our neighbors. No individual or family should struggle to put food on the table when our communities have the resources to ensure everyone is fed.
“SNAP is one of the most effective tools to reduce hunger,” said Jackie Anderson, executive director of Feeding Wisconsin. “When fewer households are able to access SNAP, food insecurity rises and food banks are forced to fill the gap. This puts significant strain on emergency food systems that were never meant to replace a national nutrition program.”
